About the Author

Philip Kiameh, M.A.Sc., B.Eng., D.Eng., P.Eng., has been a teacher at the University of Toronto, Canada, for 18 years. He also teaches courses and seminars worldwide to more than 4,000 engineers across Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Great engineering reference book

This text is an excellent, concisely written review of the operation and maintenance of a wide range of power plant equipment, useful for not only power plant engineers but also as a general handbook for mechanical engineers.

The author incorporates an excellent chapter on economics of power plant operation. The text has numerous tables, graphs, and illustrations which greatly assist in the comprehension of the subject matter, and the mathematics is not too abstract or overwhelming.

An excellent book overall.

Excellent & simple guide to MT

There are a number of resources out there for muscle testing. This book is simple to understand. Muscle testing is a "no-bones-about-it" way to test people for health issues - including emotional issues. The body tells the truth and takes any "doctor guess-work" out of the picture. This is an excellent tool to use to work in conjunction with traditional medicine. You may be amazed at the intelligence of the body if you will just let it speak to you!

End of Search for Muscle Testing Book!

I have looked all over trying to find a book that explains muscle testing that I can actually recommend to people. This is it! What you will not find from this book is a lot of extraneous stuff that doesn't need to be in a book on muscle testing. What you will find is simple, helpful information that will give you an understanding of how muscle testing can be used to figure out foods, supplements, and more. You may or may not be able to muscle test after reading this book - but if not you might learn some of the reasons why it isn't working. If nothing else you can understand what a practitioner who uses muscle testing is doing. Thank you for putting this book together!

Not a bad read, but lacking.

Although it is good to see that a few brave practitioners are beginning to address the subtleties of muscular response testing, this book provides no real valuable explanation for the phenomena that is logical and understandable for the general population. Half the time I was not able to tell if this author was addressing other health practitioners or patients. Too many details and not enough explanatory strokes. The book is written with humility and excitement, but is not technically satisfying. The book could have used some pro editing.

This book is historically accurate about one of the most evil men in history. It has good descriptions about his life and his crimes. I recommend it for beginners.

This is a quick and very elementary read on the character who was the soul of the Spanish Inquisition. It is at most a high school overview of a moment of true evil in the history of Europe, a precursor to the evils of slavery and the Holocaust. It is always truly evil to view another human being or group of human beings as not worthy of humanity and kindness.

More Propaganda Than History

I have one compliment for "Tomas de Torquemada". Specifically: Given that the book is intended for young readers, and at the low price of $5.95, "Tomas de Torquemada" is handsomely put together. I was particularly impressed by the number and quality of artistic reproductions. I should add, in fairness, that the writing and the overall approach are anything but dumbed-down or condescending.

That being said.... I had good reason to suspect that Enid A. Golberg and Norman Itzkowitz's assessment of the much-maligned Torquemada would be part and parcel of the Black Legend. My reading confirmed that which I had anticipated.

On a micro level, I noted the number of risible and offensive statements. I'll provide a couple of examples, if I may. On page 14, the authors write: "A follower [of Christ] named Judas took a bribe from Jesus' Roman enemies." A ridiculous and futile attempt to whitewash the Jews; it was they, not the Romans, who paid Judas the 30 pieces of silver to commit the ultimate betrayal. And on page 25: "A friar named [Saint] Vincent Ferrer spread similar lies [regarding Jewish responsibility for Christ's cruel death]...." First, Jewish involvement in the crucifixion of the Lord is not a lie. Second, the way Goldberg and Itzkowitz refer to Saint Vincent is singularly disrespectful. Saint Vincent, the Angel of the Apocalypse, was a worker of true miracles. In addition, he converted thousands of Jews and Muslims. He's worthy of more -- infinitely more -- than the authors' childish and bitter disdain.

On a macro level, the authors' understanding of the Spanish Inquisition and Torquemada appears to be based more on Mel Brooks' "History of the World: Part I" than on William Thomas Walsh's "Characters of the Inquisition". It's clearly beyond Goldberg and Itzkowitz's analytical capabilities (and prejudices) that, given the historical context, the Inquisition and the Dominican friar played an inevitable and essential role in protecting -- indeed, preserving -- the Catholic (yes, you read that word correctly) Spain of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. In addition, the supposed horrors of the Inquisition are just that -- supposed; thoroughly antithetical to historical fact. And the portrayal of Torquemada as fiend and monster (who's crudely described in the book's sensationalist subtitle as the "Architect of Torture During the Spanish Inquisition") is a calumny -- a hackneyed, unwarranted, and outrageous charge.

This book seeks not to enlighten, but to brainwash. It's intended to ensure that Jewish boys and girls be self-righteous in their rejection of Christ and His Church, while their Catholic counterparts should be guilt-ridden regarding their Faith and history. What Jewish parents do is entirely their business. As a Catholic, however, I believe I'm within my rights to urge Catholic parents to keep this Christophobic and anti-Catholic book out of the hands of their children.

Comprehensive, easy to read book on the molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis and host response.

I was encouraged to purchase for a graduate level course I am taking in bacterial pathogenesis. I think that is an excellent supplement to the course, especially considering that it is quite inexpensive when compared to all of the other graduate text books I have had to purchase. This is definitely my favorite text book for this semester because while it gives a lot of technical information, it is written in such a way as to make it relevant, clear, and generally easy to read. The authors really seemed to try and make this book as interesting as possible, which I really appreciate. It is so much easier to learn from a book that you enjoy reading, which is something that most text book writers don't seem to realize.

This book covers quite a variety of topics related to the molecular and general mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis as well as host responses. It is probably not the best book for those who are solely interested in clinical bacteriology as it does not go into much detail on this subject. The figures and tables generally seem to be concise, easy to understand, and clearly captioned. Every chapter also includes boxes that contain interesting real world stories related to the chapter topic. Some of these stories are about more historic events and some are about fairly recent developments in the field.

If you are taking a course that recommends this book I would encourage you to get it. There are also earlier editions of this book out there, but I have not looked at any of them so I really can't say anything as to how they compare to the third edition.

Micropath textbook

I absolutely loved this book in my microbial pathogenesis course. It explained things very well while keeping the text interesting. We didn't get to cover chapters 13-17, but I liked the book so much, I plan on reading it over the summer.

Faithful Reader

Like other Paul L. Maier books, I found this book informative and faithful. The explanation of the prophesies was a special treat. I liked the prayers at the end of each chapter. For some reason I was moved to tears several times. Maybe it's because what God has done for us that we couldn't do for ourselves is so moving. I want to share this book as a gift to my son-in-law.
