This book comprises everything from A to Z. It provide students even professional builders a quick recall/review of construction environment associated terms, elements and functions. Although, most of the subjects are mentioned and provided necessary example and explaination, there are only can be treated as a guildline. If anyone who wanted for a more detailed explanation and case study, this may not be the one. Since the building industry is so complex and varies all the time, this books can provide a good management basic for all reletated discipline.

"It was the twitching hour."

Sean Chiller is a Corporal with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Winnipeg, Canada, working with the OMG Division (Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs). He and his wife, Tracy, are driving to Fargo, North Dakota with their daughter Ashley. Ashley has Cystic Fibrosis and there's an experimental treatment available in Fargo that might help lengthen her life.

They get caught in a terrible blizzard and end up in the fenced community of Berzerker and then the nightmares really start for this little family.

Author Cage did a fine job of building the suspense in this tale. The storyline involving GMO crops is almost too believable. The blizzard adds another level of scariness that I particularly enjoyed.

There are many different characters in this story, from townspeople, mad doctors, a military presence, to the berzerkers themselves. Character development is handled well and there are many surprises with the different characters.

I like horror stories that take place in frigid areas - don't know why but I just do. And the author used the inclement weather as almost another character in the book.

This is a scary horror story with blood and guts galore (so be forewarned). It not only has the physical aspects of a horror story but has some psychological scary bits thrown in too.

Why I don't Like Small Towns

A young family en route to a very important medical appointment end up taking a detour into the Twilight Zone. The setting is out in the middle of nowhere; behind a tall, fenced perimeter is a small town. This town is controlled by a genetics corporation that uses locals for testing and happens to own surrounding law enforcement. It also helps they have the backing of the US Government.

Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) goes far beyond the local corn in this town. Young men are not at home with their families, but rather become part of a plot to create the ultimate killer.

The Chiller family just want to get out of Dodge, but car troubles are the least of their worries. Due to a bad snow storm, they accidentally gain access to this small town, and the locals aren't too pleased.

I found the story dragged a bit in places and overall it could have been chopped down a bit. There are some interesting action sequences and it is a tad gory, which is always a good thing!! I always assumed small-town living would drive to nuts, but this town takes the prize.

I recieved a copy of this book from the author for review purposes. It is currently free for KU members.

Trapped in a Strange Creepy Little Town!

Once you start "Berzerker" by Theo Cage, you'll be just as trapped as the main characters, unable to stop until you figure out what's going on and how to get yourself out of a situation that continues to become increasingly creepy and surreal. As the snow falls and Sean Chiller and his family become trapped in the strange little town of Berzerker, the weather itself can be felt as its own menacing entity. But what lurks in this town is far from weather-induced. You won't be able to put this book down until you reach the heart-pounding, surprising and ultimately, satisfying, ending.

About the Author
Jovon Lately born 1976 in Detroit, Michigan was raised by his mother, grandmother, and two aunts. Mr. Lately completed his education in Detroit Michigan, and fought through the adversity of gangs and intercity violence that continued to escalate. He was struggling to find his way in the world and also survive the gang activity all around him. His mother’s boyfriend, who had also given him a brother introduced knowledge of the Holy true Memorial Name of the heavenly father. This Mighty Name was vouchsafe Jovon at the age of six years; which he grew up knowing but from embarrassment of being harassed by his peers who never heard of this name, he kept it quiet and held it deep down inside him. The young man, Jovon, his mother and aunts had encouraged was gone, a new version lived now. Little did Jovon know, but his loving uncle would later be taken by diabetes, the same diabetes that plagued his whole family and was responsible for the deaths of his grandmother and mother. But before the death of his mother and grandmother, his younger brother at the age of 24 was taken away due to a critical life threatening medical condition that required him to live with a shunt in his brain for over 10 years. Jovon, growing up in a family that suffered many tragic financial and medical situations, he began to change even more from that fun loving creative young man he could only dimly remember. His outlook on life began to waver back and forth as he continually readjusted his own perspectives trying to survive and find his place in this world. As he matured he found his passion in helping and protecting people; he decided to get in the field of security. He was trained by specialist in various styles of martial arts which he used in his performance of various functions in security. Looking at the way the world was and observing friends he knew being killed in the streets, even being shot himself on the treacherous streets of Detroit, he and his best friend who grew up together, started to question their existence and the veracity of the BIBLE. Mr. Lately received stupendous knowledge of Yahveh Elohim and the divine pattern of the universe firsthand.

I enjoyed reading about the ideas presented in this book

During these turbulent times, it is important that we allow ourselves to be open-minded to ideas, actively pursue the truth, and allow the holy spirit to provide us with the understanding, guidance and wisdom to withstand evil. I allowed the holy spirit to guide me while I read this book. I enjoyed reading about the ideas presented in this book, particularly about the reality of Satan and how to protect ourselves from the adversary. Without knowledge of the ideas presented in this book, it seems as if we are really leaving ourselves vulnerable for the adversary to slaughter us. After reading this book, I have taken a more active stance in daily prayer and Biblical study for my protection. I cannot wait to read the books he suggested at the end of his book. This is a good book and a must read!

The writer explains in detail how to overcome all obstacles using the weapons of Yahveh. How the kingdom within you has brought understanding to spritiual concepts that I was not able to articulate to anyone. This book will give you guidance to the true teachings of the basic instructions before leaving earth. I can't wait to read his next book!

About the Author
Dr. Frank Ryan is the bestselling author of The Forgotten Plague―a New York Times Book of the Year―and Darwin’s Blind Spot, which was recommended by Charlie Munger at the 2003 Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. Excellent for newbie to field

Awesome writing, perfect for someone new to this topic. I feel I understand 1000% more than before I read this book. A story of the scientists as much as of the science. Ryan uses great metaphors to explain complex topics. If you want to get a good intro to the genome ( and BTW some basic biochemistry) this is the book!!!!! A real gem of science writing, BRAVO!!!!

Best real strategy for saving the world from human impact

The text was a little dry at first, however, consider that it is a scientific reference and compilation of data meant to show the impacts of water use on the environment and how humans can positively and negatively impact the environment, society, and world economies through water trade. It impacted my entire way of thinking and makes me wish policy makers were as practical as scientists. I would highly recommend to anyone but especially to students of sustainability, geography, geology, and generally science majors. It is also highly applicable to analyzing social and political and economic aspects of water trade.

World Water Issues from every angle

This is a well written text with a broad variety of presentation methods, from global trends to regional international issues to domestic challenges to case studies, which also presents water data across various industries. It was great for my Geography course entitled World Water Issues, especially when supplemented with current events analyses and various up-to-date online interactive maps on the state of water issues across the globe. I even went back and read the chapters that weren't assigned afterwards. Very interesting read on a very important topic!

These were real men!

I just like reading bits of history from someone's perspective that actually lived it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because there were details about the actual fighting and boot camp and training but there was also "side stories", for lack of a better term, to help remember that these were real people. They weren't just some made up characters. These were incredible men that made this country great! I thought this book did a great job or portraying just that. And it didn't have all the profanity that some do. All that's not necessary to me. I know how vulgar Marines can be. I don't have to actually read it. I definitely recommend this book.

On the shelf with the best WWII books

I was given this book by a veteran named Robert Brutinel who had served in the Marine paratroops. He joined in 1942 and arrived on Guadalcanal after the climactic fighting. However, he served on Vella La Vella and Choiseul and then fought in the 5th Division and was wounded on Iwo. When he handed me the book he said, "If you want to know what it was like, this is it." He thought the humor of the book and the camaraderie of the Marines was exactly like what he experienced. So I read the book. To this day, it is my all-time favorite Pacific theater book. And it's right up there, in my opinion, with the Forgotten Soldier on the "all-time best WWII book" shelf (with a handful of others.)

I couldn't help but read some of the critical reviews. I completely disagreed with them. Often they accused the author, Robert Leckie, of having a great resentment toward leadership and authority. I did not find that the case at all. In fact, Leckie often praised officers and had great respect for the good ones. What he couldn't stand, and it shows in his book, is unfair use of power in leadership positions -- also called theft. In almost every instance, be it the cigars LT Ivy-League stole, or the Japanese footlocker stolen by LT Big Picture, Leckie had every right to be angry and I wonder if any of the people who criticized him would have acted any differently.

Another criticized Leckie for drinking and womanizing when he was not in combat. Apparently that reader did not realize that Leckie (just like the thousands of other Marines who took liberty Down Under) had been on Guadalcanal for 5 months, with nothing but death staring him in the face and not a single woman to lay eyes on, and was now on liberty in the very country he had helped save from invasion, knowing he would be going back into combat soon. Leckie was no different than many of the other Marines, just more honest about it. I laughed at the part when a Marine was coming back from a rendezvous with a young Australian girl and commented to Leckie that the Australian girls had no morals. Leckie's comment to that hypocrisy made me laugh.

Helmet for my pillow is the type of book you simply can't put down. And you will be reading it and people in the other room will ask you "What's so funny?" because you often laugh out-loud at the wonderfully entertaining style Leckie uses. But at other times you will be riveted and saddened by the loss of great heroes like LT Racehorse and many others. (May they rest in peace.)

Robert Leckie was truly a gifted writer and it's no wonder he made his career writing for newspapers and then writing best sellers. Fantastic book.

Profound and unique insight into the WWII Pacific experience

First, I must admit a particular regard for this book as the granddaughter of Bill Smith (whom Leckie refers to as 'Hoosier'), who served with Leckie in How Company. Leckie offers nuanced insight into the ways in which he and his friends understood national military service, the `enemy', and the war more generally, and how these perspectives or ideas evolved among the men from North Carolina to Guadalcanal, Australia, and New Britain. Leckie steers clear from prototypes or cliches; there is no enblematic enlisted man or officer. Rather, these men are treated as real people coping (or not) with the profound uncertainty of their situation.

Perhaps this appreciation says more about my own lack of experience with combat/warfare. Thinking of Guadalcanal from a macro or military history perspective, it is easy to take for granted that marines' objectives - and the most efficacious means to pursue them - were always apparent to those involved. In this context, Leckie's account of warfare as a learning process was deep, reflexive, and fascinating. For example, he describes: 1) the marines' first reactions to air battle and subsequent adjustment to air battle as a simple process of attrition; and 2) the uncertainty confronted by officers at various stages, against the backdrop of the US' limited military experience in the Pacific or in jungles more generally. In this way, Leckie also makes apparent the need - and efficacy - of severe hierarchy. For this reason, I think that reviewers' arguments positing a lack of regard for officers deserve qualification.

***UPDATE/REFLECTIONS***
Hoosier was wounded and evacuated early in the Battle of Peleliu; I believe that Chuckler and Runner were wounded later and evacuated with Leckie. Leckie and his friends stayed in touch - in the summer of 1985, my grandfather and his wife, as well as Runner (Juergens) and his wife, went to visit Leckie in New Jersey. There Leckie decidated a park in their honor, in honor of all marines who fought in the Pacific Theater (I uploaded a photo of the dedication plaque in the 'customer image gallery').

Although Hoosier never liked to share his experiences from the war, my father considers the book to be true to his character. And, while the HBO miniseries diverges considerably from the book, Hoosier's sense of humor appears true to form (the book provides far greater nuance and depth, different dialogue, and events unfolded differently). This edition of the book also includes a few photographs of Leckie, Runner, Hoosier, and others - some taken in their dress blues, and others on Guadalcanal.

I LEARNED how to love

I am so grateful to the author of this book, Ken Keyes, jr., for teaching me ways of getting free of emotional upsets and even "that grey feeling" and breaking through to Unconditional Love and Oneness. When I first encountered Ken's system, I was an agnostic, and this system worked for me. Later, when I had the experiences and my vision of life transformed, I said to myself, "Oh, this is what they mean by God."

Ken has passed on now, and you would not know this by reading the book itself, but he was one of the most loving, joyful and creative people I ever met --- despite being a quadraplegic! He felt that his condition (caused by polio when he was 23 years old) predisposed him to learn what he could about using the mind to create the experience of happiness. He learned it, and he taught it in a way westerners - even agnostics - could learn without beliefs or years of meditation. It is a very practical system. Thank you, Ken!

It was in 1976 that I first read the Handbook and began practicing The Methods. I still use them every day. This is an extraordinary book.

A must read for everyone

Ok, I have been reading New Age, self help and you name it for more than twenty years. This one book, honest to God, has done more for me than most of those. I read five pages of this a day and it keeps me on track. You'll have to get past his "hippy" language, and I think he means "Attachments" or "Pre-Conceived Notions" when he uses the word "Addiction." He doesn't use the word addiction the way we use it today to connotate a substance abuse. If you're familiar with the Eastern Chakra system -- use those to visualize when he talks about the "Security Center," (First Chakra); "Sensing Center" (Second Chakra); "Power Center" (Third Chakra); "Love Center" (Fourth Chakra), "Cornucopia Center" (Fifth Chakra), etc. He doesn't mention the Chakras but it certainly aligns with them. A must read, especially if you're stuck and need to break out of that.

Learn Pankration "The Original Martial Art"

Pankration is the first mixed marital art invented by the ancient Greeks. The earlier versions of what would later become known as Pankration is where Karate and Kung fu have most of their origins. Pankration utilizes punching, kicking, wrestling and grappling techniques which later were discovered by the Japanese who called it Jujitsu and the Chinese called it Chin-a.. Some ancient Greek soldiers went to India well over 2,000 years ago and accepted some Indian students and taught them Pankration and then it spreaded from there. Soon after some Indians traveled to China and taught Pankration to them and then they took these Greek methods and adapted them to their own body types. I know this may be hard to take for fans of Asians Martial Arts but if you research this there is no denying it. It is the opposite of what you have to told most likely. The ancient Europeans were practicing punching, kicking and wrestling methods thousands of years before Karate, Kung fu and Jujitsu ever existed. Pankration is a very complete fighting art which will make you dangerous and ready for any situation. It is not a sport but a brutal art which includes attacks to the eyes, nose, neck and groin and other weak points. This book certainly will not disappoint you if you went to learn Pankration and learn about it`s history and origins. It`s the most realistic art for defending yourself on the street that I have ever seen.
