Roger G. Barry is Distinguished Professor of Geography, University of Colorado at Boulder, Director of the World Data Center for Glaciology and the National Snow and Ice Data center, and a Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.
The late Richard J. Chorley was Professor of Geography at the University of Cambridge.

Hard slog as an overview, but provides good depth for the dedicated student

I read a lot of nerdy climate blogs, and have a heavy undergraduate-level background in geological science, so I used this textbook to get a better understanding of atmospheric composition and dynamics. Without guidance, I found some of the graphs a bit obscure, and know that several concepts would be much easier to grasp with animation. (It didn't help that the older graphs had been converted from grayscale to color, without updating the descriptive legend.)
Since it's from 2009, I wouldn't use it as a climate change knowledge base, as the science has exploded in data and understanding in the past 5 years.

An excellent text about a very complex and increasingly important topic

This book begins with an excellent summary of the basic ideas and importance of meteorology. it
then goes into detail about the many aspects of the subject in words, graphics and tables. The book
requires serious work on the part of the reader--as any good textbook does. For the book to be useful
to the reader it requires basic under standing of several aspects of physics, chemistry, and geography.
